Germany Diary II

Posted 5 years, 4 months ago on September 21, 2005 Well, I've spent 1 week in Bochum (close to Dusseldorf) and this is my 4th day in Munich. Munich is actually a very vibrant & exciting city. There's the great musical clock -- the largest in the work & very historical -- and there's the Deutsches Museum (a technology museum that regular hosts demos of optics, amateur radios, etc). And in late September, there's Oktoberfest!

The Oktoberfest is quite an event. For those in Vancouver, it's like a very large PNE filled with rides, games, and food stalls. The only difference is the beer gardens & restaurants! The beer gardens are outdoors but the indoor (the restaurant) is a lot roudier! There are excellent bands thus satisfying the criteria of good food, good beer, & good music! Unfortunately for me (the non-drinker), they only sell beer in 1L amount. And I so want to stay and join in the joly & loud singing crowd!

From my local source, there's two special food that's only served during Xmas and during Oktoberfest -- some sort of a cinnamon roasted nuts and ginger cookies. FYI, they actually wear the VERY large ginger cookies that look like welcome door hangers around their necks!
